About the candidate
I am currently completing my Bachelor’s in Psychology at Sabanci University with an active research focus. Most recently, I have designed and coauthored a visual cognition study investigating boundary extension. My core research interest however, centers the effects of visceral emotional factors when they are made chronically salient. It builds on current visceral accounts in a world where the frequency with which such emotions are induced is increasing rapidly. This interest is shaped partly by ongoing work as a university and career counsellor, where I've observed firsthand the effects of chronic and immediate stress about world events hamper several of my students’ ability to think constructively about their future. I am ultimately looking to build educational tools that take our rapidly shifting context into account. I am the lead counsellor for undergraduate and graduate applications to American and British Universities at Spindle Education. I have worked with a total of 56 high-school and university students across Pakistan, America, UK, Morocco, and man to develop their goals and successfully reach schools including MIT, Wharton, Stanford, Williams, Dartmouth, etc, often with financial aid. I have also been helping develop the firm’s partner program with universities in the UK to tap into an additional revenue stream. I am also the primary person working on the firm’s efforts to expand its operations in Turkey. I have, to support my own education, been tutoring since I was in high-school myself. I have taught 12 students ranging from first graders to several of my university peers in humanities subjects. I read continental philosophy (Deleuze currently) in my own time, which helps me as a tutor greatly. I have also been on my school team for MUNs and debates (having coached a local school in my gapyear), and thus help my students not only excel at exams, but also communicate themselves clearly and effectively.
